If you have ever visited Bronte Country, you will be familiar with the moorland above Haworth in West Yorkshire. This is the home of Ulvika Norwegian Forest Cats, and you may even see one meandering his way up and down the dry stone walls that divide the fields in this part of "God's Own County". Situated within 11 miles of Bradford, and within 40 minutes of Leeds, Harrogate, the Dales and East Lancashire, we are the only breeders of NFC's in West Yorkshire.
Here is Stephen, getting to know his great-grandson, Ulvika Apollo. He takes particular interest in litter-training the kittens, and can occasionally be found curled up in the kitten's bed, accompanied by three or four babies, snuggled up to him.
Our family of NFCs has grown from 1 to 7 in seven years. It all started with the arrival of Spike, Jardufae Morc Drommen, our large black and white neutered boy....he convinced us that there is something very special about NFCs. He was then joined by Zzoro Bono, our black smoke neutered boy, renowned for his liking for all foods seasoned with curry spices, who looks after his girls and herds stray kittens back to their Mum with the skill of a sheep dog.
Over the last few years, we have found loving homes for 15 kittens within the Bradford area, and many more have gone further afield. It's lovely when owners get in touch and let us see pictures of their cats as they grow up.
I started breeding when Blossom joined us. She had five wonderful litters, including Kai and Pebbles who are now stunning adult cats and have won several classes in local cat shows. Blossom has now retired, and is queen of the household. Still loving and very gentle, she is nevertheless the boss, and the other Norwegians know their place beneath her in the pecking order!
I now have two other queens, Mistletoe (Blossom's silver daughter), and Holly (see below). Holly was the first breeding queen I bred myself, and she has the most beautiful eyes, with the distinctive dark "eyeliner" which makes them look even larger. Her father is Kate Healing's Grand Champion, Nifty (Nordlys Nicholas), and Holly is a wonderful exmple of the best of both sides of her pedigree.
Four years ago, we welcomed Moa's RH Freeman R Stephens to our home - renowned as a beautiful stud boy, he is now retired, and resides in our living room on his favourite blanket. Stephen is related to several of our cats, and is Holly's grandfather and Spike's father.
The youngest of our Norwegians is Lilia, Misty's daughter from her first litter. She is a stunning silver and white tabby girl who has captivated us since her arrival in August.
If you would like to know more about all our Norwegians, you can read more on the pages "Queens" and Our Boys".
