Father, Father never doubt,
Your vocation as a priest.
For it is a treasure without measure.
A treasure of the greatest kind.
One that no one can ever find,
Tho' they dig and seek and pine.
For it is given as a gift,
From one who lives on high,
One who is Divine.
You are chosen from among all men,
To offer sacrifice for all mankind.

To change some bread into His Body,
And then to take a cup of wine,
A simple cup of wine
To change into His blood,
The real Blood of the Son Divine!
What a gift He's given you.
What a gift from such a King!

Apostolic Constitution of Pope Pius IX on the Immaculate Conception (December 8, 1854)

God ineffable -- whose ways are mercy and truth, whose will is omnipotence itself, and whose wisdom "reaches from end to end mightily, and orders all things sweetly" -- having foreseen from all eternity the lamentable wretchedness of the entire human race which would result from the sin of Adam, decreed, by a plan hidden from the centuries, to complete the first work of his goodness by a mystery yet more wondrously sublime through the Incarnation of the Word. This he decreed in order that man who, contrary to the plan of Divine Mercy had been led into sin by the cunning malice of Satan, should not perish; and in order that what had been lost in the first Adam would be gloriously restored in the Second Adam. From the very beginning, and before time began, the eternal Father chose and prepared for his only-begotten Son a Mother in whom the Son of God would become incarnate and from whom, in the blessed fullness of time, he would be born into this world. Above all creatures did God so lover her that truly in her was the Father well pleased with singular delight. Therefore, far above all the angels and all the saints so wondrously did God endow her with the abundance of all heavenly gifts poured from the treasury of his divinity that this mother, ever absolutely free of all stain of sin, all fair and perfect, would possess that fullness of holy innocence and sanctity than which, under God, one cannot even imagine anything greater, and which, outside of God, no mind can succeed in comprehending fully.

SUPREME REASON FOR THE PRIVILEGE: THE DIVINE MATERNITY

And indeed it was wholly fitting that so wonderful a mother should be ever resplendent with the glory of most sublime holiness and so completely free from all taint of original sin that she would triumph utterly over the ancient serpent. To her did the Father will to give his only-begotten Son -- the Son whom, equal to the Father and begotten by him, the Father loves from his heart -- and to give this Son in such a way that he would be the one and the same common Son of God the Father and of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was she whom the Son himself chose to make his Mother and it was from her that the Holy Spirit willed and brought it about that he should be conceived and born from whom he himself proceeds.[1]

May 24, 2005 / People reportedly perceive the fragrance of roses although there are no roses present in a room or house.   The experience is frequently related to a spiritual event of some importance.   How do we explain this?

The fragrance of roses and the smelling of roses is frequently mentioned in records of mystical experiences.   How to explain it?   I am not sure if there is a scientific answer.   I haven't seen any, not so far.   However, it is a fact that strong spiritual, as well as other mental activities, can trigger accompanying sensory perceptions.   The imaginative power, for example the intense thought on behalf of a beloved person, may produce a physical impression and presence of that person.   The smelling of roses, being a refined and exquisite sensation, may be the equivalent of a highly-spiritual and, likewise, exquisite experience.   Or it may be the spiritual compensation for a painful spiritual experience.   Some mystics are invited to experience the dolors of Christ's Passion.   The smelling of roses may be the recompense for this ordeal, or a way of letting them know the deeper life-giving meaning of their experience.
Reflection on Mary's Annunciation fullness of grace, God's presence
with her, and her conception of Jesus, God the Son, the Divine Word
Incarnate - as Mother, with God the Father - by God the Holy Spirit
provides the occasion for instructing children that through Mary's
thus being brought and entering into the fullness of union with God
for the Divine Maternity, God, in turn, now revealed as the Trinity
of Divine Persons, was thereby enabled to share and to show forth
through her all the divine action for the world, in a fulfillment of
the divine/human sharing purpose of Creation.

In praying the remaining mysteries of the Rosary, children are to
be assisted in seeing them also as aspects Mary's divine union and
mediation - especially as Co-redemptrix in the sorrowful mysteries
and as heavenly Mediatrix and Queen in the glorious mysteries.

SUPREMI APOSTOLATUS OFFICIO
ENCYCLICAL OF POPE LEO XIII ON
DEVOTION OF THE ROSARY

To all the Patriarchs, Primates, Archbishops and Bishops of the Catholic World in the Grace and Communion of the Apostolic See.

Venerable Brethren, Health and the Apostolic Benediction. The supreme Apostolic office which we discharge and the exceedingly difficult condition of these times, daily warn and almost compel Us to watch carefully over the integrity of the Church, the more that the calamities from which she suffers are greater. While, therefore, we endeavor in every way to preserve the rights of the Church and to obviate or repel present or contingent dangers, We constantly seek for help from Heaven and the sole means of effecting anything and that our labors and our care may obtain their wished for object. We deem that there could be no surer and more efficacious means to this end than by religion and piety to obtain the favor of the great Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, the guardian of our peace and the minister to us of heavenly grace, who is placed on the highest summit of power and glory in Heaven, in order that she may bestow the help of her patronage on men who through so many labors and dangers are striving to reach that eternal city.
How appropriate it is for the first day of the new thousand years to begin with the Feast of the Mother of God.
For, as promised by Our Lady of Fatima, it is through her who is the Mother of God and our spiritual mother that peace shall come to the world.

As we enter the new millennium, our vision is to see the fulfillment of God's progressive Divine Plan through Mary as promised by the Blessed Virgin, the Mother of God, she who continues to be blessed throughout every generation.

Our Heavenly Mother gave us three weapons to battle the evil forces of Satan that divide the world, the nations and the families. Let us begin this new thousand years by equipping ourselves and our loved ones with the Marian Sacramentals of the Catholic Church. Let us cherish the Rosary as our gift of hope, the Scapular as our garment of grace and the Miraculous Medal as our instrument of faith.

(St. Louis De Montfort's Consecration)

I, (Name), a faithless sinner -
renew and ratify today in thy hands,
O Immaculate Mother,
the vows of my Baptism;
I renounce forever Satan,
his pomps and works;
and I give myself entirely to Jesus Christ,
the Incarnate Wisdom,
to carry my cross after Him
all the days of my life,
and to be more faihful to Him
than I have ever been before.

In the presence of all the heavenly court
I choose thee this day,
for my Mother and Mistress.
I deliver and consecrate to thee,
as thy slave, my body and soul,
my goods, both interior and exterior,
and even the value of all my good actions,
past, present and future;
leaving to thee the entire
and full right of disposing of me,
and all that belongs to me, without exception,
according to thy good pleasure,
for the greater glory of God,
in time and in eternity.

Amen.
Genesis 1:27; Romans 8:29; 1 Corinthians 15:49).
Gen 1
[27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Rom.8

[29] For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the first-born among many brethren. 1Cor.15

[49] Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.

Mary: "Full of Grace"

The Fathers of the Church taught that Mary received a number of distinctive blessings in order to make her a more fitting mother for Christ and the prototypical Christian (follower of Christ). These blessings included her role as the New Eve (corresponding to Christs role as the New Adam), her Immaculate Conception, her spiritual motherhood of all Christians, and her Assumption into heaven. These gifts were given to her by Gods grace. She did not earn them, but she possessed them nonetheless.

The key to understanding all these graces is Marys role as the New Eve, which the Fathers proclaimed so forcefully. Because she is the New Eve, she, like the New Adam, was born immaculate, just as the First Adam and Eve were created immaculate. Because she is the New Eve, she is mother of the New Humanity (Christians), just as the first Eve was the mother of humanity. And, because she is the New Eve, she shares the fate of the New Adam. Whereas the First Adam and Eve died and went to dust, the New Adam and Eve were lifted up physically into heaven.

Of particular interest in the following quotations from the Fathers are those that speak of Marys immaculate nature. We will all one day be rendered immaculate (sinless), but Mary, as the prototypical Christian, received this grace early. God granted her freedom from sin to make her a fitting mother for his Son.

Even before the terms "original sin" and "immaculate conception" had been defined, early passages imply the doctrines. Many works mention that Mary gave birth to Jesus without pain. But pain in childbearing is part of the penalty of original sin (Gen. 3:16). Thus, Mary could not have been under that penalty. By Gods grace, she was immaculate in anticipation of her Sons redemptive death on the cross. The Church therefore describes Mary as "the most excellent fruit of redemption" (CCC 508).

Novena of the Miraculous Medal
O Immaculate Virgin Mary,
Mother of Our Lord Jesus and our Mother,
penetrated with the most lively confidence in your all-powerful and never-failing intercession, manifested so often through the Miraculous Medal,
we your loving and trustful children implore you to obtain for us the graces and favors we ask during this novena,
if they be beneficial to our immortal souls,
and the souls for whom we pray.
(Here form your petition)

You know, O Mary, how often our souls have been the sanctuaries of your Son who hates iniquity.
Obtain for us then a deep hatred of sin and that purity of heart which will attach us to God alone so that our every thought, word and deed may tend to His greater glory.
Obtain for us also a spirit of prayer and self-denial that we may recover by penance what we have lost by sin and at length attain to that blessed abode where you are the Queen of angels and of men.
Amen.

The Blessed Virgin Mary, Fountain of Salvation

In the great mystery of the Incarnation the Holy Spirit overshadowed the Blessed Virgin
And she brought forth your eternal Word, Jesus Christ, the fountain of living water
From which all may satisfy their thirst to be one with you in a communion of love.
The Church also provided for all the faithful the waters flowing from Christ’s side.
These are the rich, life-giving waters served in the sacraments,
So that those who share in them with faith may be filled with the Holy Spirit
And may find Christ, their Savior.
The Blessed Virgin Mary and the Presentation of the Lord

She is the virgin,
The handmaid of your plan of salvation
Who presents to you the spotless Lamb,
To be sacrificed on the altar of the cross for our salvation. …
The Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Divine Providence

In Cana of Galilee, when she interceded with her Son
For the bridegroom and bride, he gave the first of his signs;
Water was turned into wine, the wedding guests rejoiced,
And the disciples believed in their Master. …
Each day the Church also prepares for its children
The table where it nourishes them with bread from heaven,
Born of the Virgin Mary for the life of the world: Jesus Christ our Lord. …

AN ACT OF REPARATION FOR BLASPHEMIES AGAINST
THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

Most glorious Virgin Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, turn shine eyes in pity upon us, miserable sinners; we are sore afflicted by the many evils that surround us in this life, but especially do we feel our hearts break within us upon hearing the dreadful insults and blasphemies uttered against thee, O Virgin Immaculate. O how these impious sayings offend the infinite Majesty of God and of His only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ! How they provoke His indignation and give us cause to fear the terrible effects of His vengeance! Would that the sacrifice of our lives might avail to put an end to such outrages and blasphemies; were it so, how gladly we should make it, for we desire, O most holy Mother, to love thee and to honor thee with all our hearts, since this is the will of God. And just because we love thee, we will do all that is in our power to make thee honored and loved by all men. In the meantime do thou, our merciful Mother, the supreme comforter of the afflicted, accept this our act of reparation which we offer thee for ourselves and for all our families, as well as for all who impiously blaspheme thee, not knowing what they say. Do thou obtain for them from Almighty God the grace of conversion, and thus render more manifest and more glorious thy kindness, thy power and thy great mercy. May they join with us in proclaiming thee blessed among women, the Immaculate Virgin and most compassionate Mother of God.
