You might assume by looking at this picture that I'm a smoker, but I'm not. It's just that after a few beer, ...
I'm not a regular drinker either, but there are times ...
By the way, all of the beer cans you see behind me WERE BROUGHT BACK OUT.
Hey. My name is Al Osmond and I live just outside of Sussex, New Brunswick, Canada. It's a farming area with a lot of beautiful scenery. I'm originally from Newfoundland, Canada and I moved to this province in the winter of 2000.
In 2004 I married Liz here in New Brunswick. Back in the late-70s and early-80s we hung around as good friends in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Her first husband died in 2003 and we decided to make a go of it. Things seem to be working out and I'm happy. There are pictures of us scattered throughout the OUTDOOR STUFF and NEWFOUNDLAND VACATION sections.
My work, hobbies and recreation are centered around fish. I'm a technician at a salmon hatchery. We grow Atlantic salmon from egg to smolt, when they are then ready to go to saltwater. Between the times when the eggs arrive and when they are shipped out, a number of things occur, as is seen in the AQUACULTURE STUFF section.
Liz and I have four aquariums. All but the small gourami tank contain cichlids of different species. Very interesting and intelligent fish and beautiful in their own ways.
I love to catch fish. I've caught brook trout, sea trout and landlocked salmon in the Humber Valley of Newfoundland (although the area is most famous for the sea-run Atlantic salmon - the king of fish), walleye in northern Alberta, bass and pickerel on the St. Croix River and trout on the Kennebecasis River here in New Brunswick. All of these areas, needless to say, have their own species of by-catch which are just as good, if not for the excitement then for the variety. I started fly-fishing in 2004 when we got married and - to overuse the already long dead phrase - was hooked. I have many pictures of fishing, wildlife and the outdoors here on my site in the FISHING STUFF and OUTDOOR STUFF sections.
I also tie and sell trout flies. I'm not spectacularly great at it yet, but my flies catch fish and repeat customers. It's a good hobby in the summer for using them and in the winter for selling them in the spring. They are in a corner store in this area and people have asked to buy them on the riverbank. This is also in FISHING STUFF.
As well as being a fish lover, I'm also into digital photography with my 7.2 MP Sony Cyber-shot. I got into digital photography in the Dark Ages (2002) when I had my 1MB serial-port Kodak camera (oooohhhh, aaaahhhh) and a couple of crappier models before that. I went through a number of models until Christmas 2005 when Liz gave me the Sony. I'm still picking up new tricks with it that make it easier to get good pictures.
I have a B.Sc. in Environmental Science from Memorial University of Newfoundland's Sir Wilfred Grenfell College campus. That was quite an eye opener of a degree. Thanks to it I'm able to take detailed notice of the ecology in the areas where I fish. This also makes for some very interesting pictures, as you will see in the pages that follow.
